Shelley Glanton attended Kirtland from 1980 to 1982, earning a Certificate of Practical Nursing in 1981 and an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing in 1982. In 2002, she graduated from the University of Cincinnati, where she earned Board Certification in Gerontology and became a member of the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC). In 2012, she was certified as a Resident Assessment Coordinator by the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC). Shelley has thoroughly enjoyed her career, stating, “It has been more than a career to me, it’s a calling, a journey that has helped shape who I am today.” She also writes, “Nursing has been a great adventure of resilience, responsibility, sadness, and great joy. The rewards of nursing are many and immeasurable.” In 2014, she received an award for outstanding Pastoral Care as a registered nurse from the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina. She shared one of her greatest memories during her time as an RN, writing, “I walked into a patient’s room, and she said, 'Oh, thank goodness it’s an RN.' When I got close enough for her to see my name tag, I asked how she knew. She said, ‘Your cap, I know you are from Kirtland and an RN because of your black stripe on your cap. ’ That gave her comfort, and I was very proud to be an RN.”
